AU/CRAU: No
Age: 30 chronologically; looks 15 in "human years"
History: Here with Bonus World Information.
Personality: Kurakai is what most would probably consider anything but typical.

He's a walking contradiction; while it can be obvious (at times) that he cares about people, he's a legitimately awful person. He's sadistic. He genuinely enjoys killing. He enjoys seeing people suffer. As he describes to Dousuke (later on in his life), torturing and killing other people is the only way he feels alive. The most interesting part of all this, is that he's fully aware that there's something wrong with how he feels. This is why he buries all of his true desires, determined to be nothing like what his heart wants him to be.

So, it's safe to say that he always has some form of control over himself - he's spent most of his life learning about just that.

Even with all of his ingrained determination, it's obvious that this guy has serious issues. Especially when it comes to his understanding of relationships. Because, while there's a part of him that wishes to have what his parents had (before...the killing happened, that is), there's a part of him that wants nothing to even do with that sort of thing. The concept of friendship eludes him, and he has terrible issues with letting himself get close to others. It doesn't help that Selestia outright refuses to talk to him. If anything, she acts utterly terrified of him.

Shalana and Dousuke are the only two people he really interacts with at this point, and he "doesn't mind at all."

Dousuke is the closest thing to a friend he has. While he won't openly call him that, he tolerates his existence a hell of a lot more than most. They spend an awful lot of time together, with Dousuke usually yelling at Kurakai for being reckless. This level of caring is something he is no longer used to, since his parents left his life at such a young age.

Shalana is the girl he has a huge crush on. She's basically all he thinks about lately, even if he is in denial of his own feelings. Sputtering and stammering around her is clearly just some forming speech impediment, obviously... In any case, she is someone he finds himself daydreaming about, and is likely one of the people he'll be openly mopey over, from time-to-time. Her not being here makes this place a little less interesting.

Put simply, he has two people he cares about, yet claims to not care about "anyone."

Essentially, his lack of desire to get close to others, is all due to his lack of confidence, coupled with his fear of rejection. While he might carry an overly confident demeanor, he doesn't think very highly of himself. Deep down, he has this wonderful idea that his life is worth absolutely nothing. Whenever his life is genuinely threatened, he will continue to rush, headfirst, into the situation. In all honesty, a part of him does wish for death. That part wants to finally be granted a reprieve, and death...at times...feels to be the only means of escaping.

Not thinking very highly of himself is also the reason he doesn't bother reaching out. He sees himself as someone that's only able to bring harm, in the end, rather than joy or happiness. Sure, he can do nice things or give small acts of kindness -- he could. And, while he knows how to do nice things for people, the brief happiness that comes as a result isn't true happiness. Why bother with temporary happiness? That sort of thing will only fade, leaving disappointment.

As a child he was happy. He was loving, even if he could be a bit brash. He'd call his sister names, yet always fight anyone who dared to call her a name - she was his sister. Only he could pick on her (typical child logic at its finest). He adored his mother and admired his father. Their lives were very normal of a Fire Clan family. Then... he lost all of that. His father slaughtered his mother, attempted to slaughter his sister, and then died at Kurakai's hands. This... destroyed him. Being the one to take the life of the one person he saw through rose-colored glasses, was enough to break him for several, long years.

To add insult to injury, his sister still blames him for the death of their parents. She's missing the memories of that night, save for the one of Kurakai covered in blood. In her mind, he killed their father and mother - not just the former. This...hurts him, even to this day. In some ways, he's a little bitter to his sister, on top of being hurt by her words and actions. He misses her most of all, however.

Speaking of disappointment, Kurakai doesn't handle loss very well. As I said up there, he's lost his family already. Because he doesn't let himself dwell on his losses, he's never actually dealt with any of them. As such, whenever he experiences a new loss, his mind and heart shuts down. He goes into a blind rage, and unconsciously seeks to destroy everything in his path. It might seem like an overreaction, to most, but there is a reason for it.

The Fire Clan is comprised of beings that all have uncontrollable tempers. When they're angry, it comes out in an intense, rapid burst of emotion. Everything must be expressed and dealt with right then. Kurakai is the only Fire Clansman who's decided to fight against this ingrained nature. His way of dealing with it? By suppressing every ounce of violent desire that comes whenever someone does something to piss him off. He's becoming more skilled at it, as the years go by. Unfortunately, however, this comes at a rather high cost:

Whenever something exceptionally bad happens, he loses all ability to cling to what makes him feel like less of a monster. He snaps. Everything he's been bottling up, comes out powerfully. Without thought to where he is -- or who is with him -- he unleashes every ounce of power. The only thing that matters is destruction.

While he is chronologically old enough to be an adult, according to human years, he is still considered a child by his clan. Since his parents died before he turned 14, he had nobody to perform his Coming of Age Ceremony. It's for this reason, he thoroughly believes he will never be seen as a "man" by his people. This adds to his issues with confidence.

Another thing that messes with his confidence? The golden (known by humans as "full") and black (known by humans as "new") moons. He's directly affected by each of these things:

The golden moon marks the breeding time -- a time when hormones and the need to reproduce becomes heightened. Anyone who isn't pregnant - or anyone between the ages of 15 and 150 - is affected by this moon phase. They become consumed by hormonal urges and desires, prompting them to engage in acts of the sexual nature. For males, their powers and dominance become heightened, prompting them to compete with one another for the attention of female Fire Clan members. It's the opposite of females, who become a little more docile.

During the black moon, things take an opposite twist. It's the time for males to become subservient, docile, needy, etc...

Being directly affected by both of these times every single month... It's a little daunting, honestly. It takes a toll on his pride, and reminds him that there are even more things that he has no control over. This is partly why he grows up to hate humans -- he's jealous of them, after learning that they don't have to deal with these things. He despises them for being so... normal. He hides it behind his "thinking they're weak and pathetic" when... really, he just wants to be one of them.
Debt: To have never died, so that his father and mother never felt that pain. Also, for his sister to "love him" again.
